Avoyelles Parish Port is Central Louisiana’s newest water transportation venue on the Atchafalaya River.    With an 18 foot depth it can serve barge traffic, thus avoiding congestion on the big rivers.  It is located in Simmesport, the Gateway City of the Atchafalaya River, where three rivers meet:   Atchafalaya River, Red River, and the Mississippi River flowing into the Gulf of Mexico.  Avoyelles Parish has always depended upon the Atchafalaya River and its relationship with the other great rivers.
The Port’s four-phase master plan for development is unique in that it provides land for industrial development along side recreation, parks, and a boat ramp as well as the parish’s latest residential development, Canadaville.
