commission board

The Avoyelles Parish Port Commission was established in 1992 and began moving forward to build its first assets.   The Commission has a vision for the port to be an economic engine for Avoyelles Parish and surrounding central Louisiana region.   And already it has several developments on the drawing board to make it a multi-use port for both business and residents.

The Commission Board consists of 7 board members.   Four are appointed by the Avoyelles Parish Port Commission; two by the town of Simmesport; and one is elected by the Board.    The Commission is a jurisdiction of the state of Louisiana with the ability to issue bonds and pass taxes.   The Avoyelles Parish Port is funded by revenue generated from services and facilities, and the Avoyelles Parish Police Jury.
